Milestones of the Year 2006-07

• Federation and all the three regional Milk Unions joined hands with NDDB to be a part of the national stream to promote co-operative brand. In the wake of competition from private sector , KCMMF and the Regional Milk Unions readily accepted the well planned Marketing Strategy of NDDB and the mnemonic symbol of NDDB was introduced in the milk pouches in the State. Kerala is the first federation to adopt the mnemonic symbol throughout the State.
• Thiruvananthapuram dairy under the Thiruvananthapuram Regional Co-operative Milk Producers Union Ltd. obtained ISO certification. This is the first dairy in Kerala to get such an accreditation.
• Kozhikode dairy under the Malabar Regional Co-operative Milk Union obtained ISO 9001-2000& HACCP(Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point)Certification.This is the first dairy in Kerala to get the internationally acclaimed HACCP acereditation. This is also the first day in India to receive both the above two certifications simultaneously.
• For effective leam flush management in milk procurement, the dual pricing system was introduced for the first time in all the three Regional Milk Unions.
• A rehabilitation package for the ERCMPU with the Central & State Govt. assistance was initiated through NDDB with a total outlay of Rs. 4.13 Crores.
• A long-term Perspective plans of TRCMPU and MRCMPU for rs. 15.99 Crores respectively were approved by NDDB.
• Government of Kerala has granted Salex Tax exemption for sales of liquid milk with retrospective effect from 01.01.1994

Highlights of the Year 2006-07

• Highest ever turnover achieved
• Highest capacity utilisation of Cattle Feed Plants
• Sales of Cattle Feed is more than 50% over the previous year
• The Milk sales at Central Product Dairy increased to 60000 LPD
• Uninterrupted milk supply even during peak lean season
• Highest milk sales achieved
• The Cattle Feed Plant was modernized which resulted in improvement in the quality of Feed.
• With the expansion of various projects undertaken during last year, the milk processing capacity has touched about 10.2 lakhs litres/day
• Two verieties of ghee are manufactured in CPD. Samrudhi brand is well established in Kerala Market. Th increased sale of ghee has brought in better contribution.
• Milma plus a flavoured milk available in chocolate, cardamom,strawberry,pineapple and mango flavours. The sale of Milma Plus in disposable glass bottle created good response in the market. Chocolate flavour was in great demand.
• Our state suffered enormous loss of the life and property due to Tsunami disaster that hit the state on 26th December 2004. Federation , Regional Milk Unions, Milk producers and employees of APCOS and Milma contributed towards the relief efforts. An amount of Rs.30lakhs was mobilised and donated to Chief Minister's Tsunami Relief Fund.

 

Our aims for the year to come

• The dairy industry in the country is exposed to various challenges.The management of lean-flush periods has always been a matter of major concern to Milma and it still continues to be a key problem to be addressed on top priority.We have to re-dedicate ourselves to uphold our oft-repeated sogan "Farmers' Prosperity through Consumer Satisfaction". To keep farmer and consumer contended and happy in chorus is a difficult task.We have to formulate strategies and plans to accomplish the aforesaid task.Though a quarter century has elapsed since the drawn of Operation Flood programme we are yet to achieve self-sufficiency in milk production. At the same time we can be proud of our achievements in the area of infrastructure development, milk consumption enhancement and economic and social development of rural dairy farmers.A joint concerted effort of Milma and other Government agencies in Dairy Development and Animal Husbandry will go a long way in fulfilling our dreams. We have to strive to wipe off the accumulated losses and to improve the performance both on the physical and financial fronts. Your trust,your confidence and your encouragement will further energize and motivate us in this pursuit.
• We will continue with the infrastucture development to complete the wayanad and Pathanathitta dairy Projects during next two years whereby the processing capacity would be increased by 1,10,000 LPD.We are also planning to complete the IDDP & CMP Projects by the year 2010.A proposal for augmenting the capacities of Cattle Feed Plants from existing 600MT to 1000 MTPD is under active consideration.
• The next two decades will witness enormous and significant changes in the dairy arena. As you may be aware, the Government of India is envisaging a scheme by name National Dairy Plan undr which massive investment is planned in selected districts of the country for enhancing milk production. The scheme provides for accelerating dairy development through loans and grants. The total investment envisaged in the country under this plan is to the tune of Rs.19500 crores upto the year 2022. Kerala is also brought under this plan. In the backdrop of overall developments made by Milma in the past, our priority shall be to get adequate financial support under this plan.KCMMF, being the leader of the dairy sector in Kerala shall take the initiative and steps to evolve appropriate plans under the scheme in union with other dairy development agencies in the state.

The Federation achieved a turnover of Rs. 132.80 crores in the year 2006-07 as against Rs.127.40 crore during previous year
